Staff Sergeant Vernon M. Baize (ASN: 16160533), United States Army Air Forces, was captured by German forces after his plane was shot down on April 29, 1944 and was held as a Prisoner of War until the end of hostilities in May 1945.
I just want to say thank you to the members of the Marine Corps League who attended the medal ceremony today down at Memorial Park. Your men and women made a very big impression on the family as well as Congressman Rose. Without the support of your Marines today there would have been very few people there to celebrate this important moment for the Baize family. I spoke with Mrs. Baize after the ceremony and she was so impressed and pleased by the turnout of your members.
And personally I wanted to say thank you to the Marine Corps League for always being there to proudly represent our veteran community.
